NEW WORLD POLYPHONY:
Treasures from the Cathedral of Mexico City

This project was supported, in part, by 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax

This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.

This program features sacred music from the Two Mexico City Choirbooks of 1717. We will perform music by composers Antonio Rodríguez Mata, Antonio de Salazar, and Manuel de Sumaya, alongside music by old world icons that had an unmistakable influence on the Mexican polyphonic style—Tomás Luis de Victoria, Alonso Lobo, and G.P. da Palestrina.

Normally, we use ticket sales and donations collected from our performances to continue to pay for singers of the Byrd Ensemble. Unfortunately, COVID has forced us off the stage and into the digital world. We see this as an opportunity to deliver you a more intimate version of our work in the comfort of your own home! While we can't see you in person, you can still support our work by making a donation or purchasing a virtual ticket.
